Stockholm (part 1)

Week 2: Heading south 3.5 hours to Stockholm by train. The first few nights we stayed with friends and the last two with family. I got a really good taste of the city, in every sense of the word; seeing the sights, eating like royalty and enjoying great company:

Train! They're very comfortable and the older Swede ladies do it up right, they come equipped with a bottle of wine and a bar of chocolate!

Left: Riksdag, where laws are passed. The smaller buildings to the right of the riksdag are other gov't buildings and public agencies.

The Royal Palace, i.e. a castle!!! I watched the guards march around the HUGE compound, it was pretty radical. We ventured inside where you could enter the treasury. The walls were beautifully detailed with ornate stone design. It is hard to comprehend complexity of the stone etchings and how long it took to make so long ago...

Vasa Warship: Built from 1626 to 1628 and sank on it's first voyage.

Took a ferry from a harbor near the Vasa museum to head back towards central Stockholm. Our public transportation card covered all modes of transit. Sweet deal.
